I just opened the package from my first order of HelloFresh and I can say that I’m impressed. I’ve always been curious about food delivery services that send you the ingredients for you to cook yourself so when I got a coupon to try it at a discounted price, I decided to give it a trial.
The most simple plan is three meals a week with enough servings for two people. That costs around $60 a week. In the reviews, I’m reading a lot of people are saying that it’s cheaper than grocery shopping. I was very skeptical about that but in looking at the quality of meals that you get in the package, it may be.
I was eager to try this because I’m starting a new health journey myself. I was thrown off track for a while because I had the flu, but I’m trying to jump back in it. I’ve been making lots of smoothies within the past week and now I’m ready to try cooking my own meals.
My package was delivered by UPS. I was happy to find that the vegetable ingredients are packed and separated by the recipe in a box like this:
The meat was packed separately under ice. The recipes are printed on large cards that are made to keep so you can cook everything again on your own. The cards have each cooking step numbered and pictured like a DK cookbook :). (I like this.)
In the advertisements, everything is packed together for visuals so I was happy to see that things are a bit more organized.
First impressions are good. I’ll write a follow-up once I cook my first recipe. It’s important to note that these recipes are not all low-calorie. The Hello Fresh recipes range from about 550-800 calories per serving. You are allowed to choose which recipes you get so you can select if you’re watching calories. (Classic Plan only for now). They also offer a vegetarian option with the meals preplanned. Families can order the Family plan or choose to receive 4 servings instead of 2.

I’m not overly concerned with the calorie counts. The meals are homemade with fresh ingredients which are already a step up from eating out. I’m also substituting smoothies for at least one meal a day.
Is Hello Fresh worth it? So far, so good. We’ll see how the meals turn out but I have high hopes.
